Kickstarter launch for this single, Tony Skinner’s Lad
Robb Johnson has a Kickstarter for his 7″ vinyl single of Tony Skinner’s Lad, written about Dennis Skinner, former MP for Bolsover. It went to number 1 in the Amazon download chart but will hopefully become a single if the Kickstarter reaches 100%. Join in here
Roger Stevens releases new album on 1st November 2020 – “Rescued by Orcas”
Roger says, “I had planned to release an album of piano-based songs. Instead, Jill and I have ended up spending most of the year in France, where her elderly mother lives, shielding ourselves from the virus. With no access to a decent piano, the original project had to be put on hold. Instead, I wrote some new songs and, as I only had basic recording facilities here, decided to go for a more live feel. I recorded myself live, singing with guitar, then sent the tracks to the recording studio, where Ali Gavan added drums and bass. Ray Knight (harmonica), Charlotte Glasson (violin, clarinet, flute and saxophone) and Karen Moses (backing vocals) took turns visiting the studios (socially distanced of course) to add their contributions and Andy Melrose sent some mandolin parts from his home.
Normally, I would have overseen the recording and been there for the mix but that was not possible. So the album has been produced by Ali, rather than myself. This has led, interestingly I think, to it having a slightly different feel to my other Irregular albums.
The cover is a collage by Michael Leigh, and artist friend, who also did my other Irregular Record covers. I’m very pleased with the way the album has all turned out. “
